DARIFALT® - THE PRODUCT

Darifalt® is an innovative semi-flexible paving system, totally designed and manufactured in Italy, capable of blending the advantages typically offered by bituminous and cement conglomerates. The production technique basically consists in using a bituminous conglomerate with good draining features (open-grade) to form the frame of the paving layer and expansive cement-based mortar (Darimix®) as a filler. The ensuing structure is easy to make, has no surface joining points, has high resistance and loading capacities. It is also extremely versatile in its use both in the construction of new paving systems with high static and dynamic involvement and in ordinary and extraordinary maintenance activities, where there is a need not only to restore previous conditions, but also to reinforce transit levels which have undergone functional deteriorisation.
The advantages offered by the Darifalt® solution can be summarised as follows:

- fast and easy to apply;
- may be employed also in winter;

- long life and endurance to chemical action caused by fuels or solvents:
- high resistance to fire;
- can be surface-finished according to final usage (smooth or corrugated surface);
- does not require construction joints;

EXAMPLE OF APPLICATION

Construction of the new W loop road at the Milano Malpensa international airport

Between the winter of 2006 and the summer of 2007, a new loop road called “Whisky” was built near the Milano Malpensa international airport, covering an area of about 75,000 sq.m., along with an aircraft standing area for non-mainstream air traffic.
Darifalt® was the material chosen for the construction technique, thus allowing for a fast construction schedule and providing the high load capacity suited to the recent freight vehicle models which will soon be introduced on international routes.
